Offer to buy Rangers imminent

Postby craig » Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:46 pm

Rumours suggest that there are three parties interested in buying Rangers, with one willing to make a bid very soon.
A consortium headed by London-based property developer Andrew Ellis, a former director at Queen's Park Rangers, is preparing to make an offer.
However, BBC Scotland has learned that two other parties are also considering bids to take over the Ibrox club.

this all sounds good

Someone at Rangers must have read this post because they have now come out and said this

THE Board of Directors of The Rangers Football Club plc ("Club") is aware of the recent takeover speculation in the media and refers shareholders and supporters to a previous statement issued in October 2009.

The Club's board has been advised by its principal shareholder, Murray International Holdings Limited ("MIH"), that it is considering options regarding its shareholding in the Club and this may or may not lead to MIH disposing of some or all of its stake in the Club to a third party.

The directors of the Club will keep shareholders advised of key developments but the Board is unable to comment further at this time.

I have the jitters over this story, here's why

1. What interest would a London based investor have in Rangers in particular and Scottish football in general right now?
Anyone coming in would still have to continue the process of downsizing. I don't see where they would get a return.

2. QPR have been in turmoil for the last 10 years. Nobody involved has covered themselves in glory.

3. Does the fact he's a property developer alarm anybody else? Would it be in his plans to take Rangers out of town and we
would end up seeing flats at Ibrox and Murray park?

Do you ever just get a bad feeling about something?

Dexter chappy...your way too clever for this place.....the recent take-overs down south (man city - currently - withstanding) would make me very nervous if i was a rangers fan....the fact i'm not does not mean i wish the worst....

The Sun has a story on Mr Andrew Ellis and it doesnt make for good reading.

at QPR he wanted to move the club 20 miles out of the stadium. This backs up DEXTERs question number 3. Is this what he wants to do with Rangers

at Northampton he wanted to merge the club with MK dons. Surely he cant want to do this with Rangers. Surely not.

I am starting to take the better the devil you know approach with this. Bring back Murray.

I'm beginning to think Murrays last act of incompetence will be to hand us over to the worst possible buyer. Dave King might be a crook but at least he's a rangers supporting crook. Thats gotta count for something. Murray talks about handing it over to someone with Rangers interests at heart but when it boils down to it money will talk to an edinburgh dwelling rugby fan.

Will they be clearing rangers debts after they shell out £30m+ to buy the club, all in all they will need to put around £80-£90m if they are going to help the club. £30m to buy it and £40m to clear thr debts and the rest as investment for the team. As you say he's a property developer and the last property developer involved with yous (MIH) has left your club facing financial ruin!

We could always go down the PLC road and fleece the fans out of their hard earned cash by offering them shares only to watch them plummet and be no further forward. I wonder if thats ever been tried before. Hmmm
