According to media reports Wayne Rooney is both angry and confused at his current treatment at the hands of Manchester United.
Given that he was born confused the only piece of news concerns his feeling of anger or should that be frustration at failing to get his own way.
Fans will recall the first time he played the I am the main man card some years ago to gain himself a lucrative new contract, which surprised yours truly, as it seemed to suggest at the time that he had come out on top against Alex Ferguson.
However if really had any sense he would have known that Fergie has a long memory and when he tried to get an assurance from the manager by hinting that he would probably leave the club he professed to love so much in the absence of guaranteed first team football.
Alex Ferguson had always stated that no individual, not even himself, was greater than the club and the likes of Beckham, Van Nistelrooy and Stam to name but a few paid the price of trying it on.
Wayne’s ego took a bit of a knock with the arrival and success of Robin Van Persie but instead of becoming the incredible sulk he should have talked to Ryan Giggs who really loves the club and is happy to play there whenever he gets the chance.
But asking Wayne to show common sense is probably expecting too much and if David Moyes’ stance has been correctly reported, it would seem that even although Alex Ferguson has gone his influence has reached out to remind Mr.Rooney that no one is greater than the club.
