It’s our ninth season in a row as the Podcast team return for another campaign – just four weeks after the last podcast of season eight!
We are one John down but John B and Krys are joined by special guest Aaron Connolly of Fauldhouse United. The guys start by summarising the cruel ending to the Scotland Women’s World Cup adventures, where they went out in typically Scottish fashion. Whilst we are gutted for them, there is a recognition of how far the Women’s game has come in the last two years and we hope that they learn the harsh lessons going forward.
The subject of mental health has always been a talking point and few know more about the depths of depression than Aaron. He talks very openly about his darkest and lowest moment when he was ready to take his own life, only to hear the voice of his son as the starting point to saving his life. Aaron goes into detail about the moment he was found by Police, his visit to A&E, four weeks at Leverndale Mental Hospital and being in a better place now.
Aaron is now an ambassador for Back Onside, who reached out to him when he was at Leverndale, and he gave a great insight into the work the founder Libby Emmerson and her team do to reach out to people who suffer from mental health and encourage them to speak out. Turning attentions back to the senior game, four of our clubs are in European action this week. Celtic kick off their Champions League campaign in Sarajevo, whilst Rangers, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock take on opposition from Gibraltar, Finland and Wales in their quest to qualify for the Europa League. Here’s hoping they all progress to push the co-efficient up.
The other domestic sides all begin their Betfred Cup campaign this weekend, starting with Hearts v Dundee United on Friday.
We are glad to be back for another season. Thank you to everyone for subscribing and interacting with us.
